What Kids Learned at Our Spring Camp (Day 3)
Today we worked on creating our own custom chatbots. We started by learning how chatbots are built and what goes into designing one. We focused on the engineering process, especially the testing, improving, and sharing stages.
Students learned that this process is iterative, meaning we keep testing and making changes to improve our work. A big focus today was testing different conditions. Not just the expected or “correct” inputs, but also unexpected ones to see how the chatbot responds. This helped students understand how to make their chatbots more reliable.
We also explored how different AI models can respond differently depending on how prompts are written. Students practiced writing more detailed and clear prompts to guide better responses. To wrap up, students created a magazine-style showcase to share their chatbot. They thought about important questions like the purpose of their chatbot, who they are building it for, and how to present their idea clearly. It was great to see students combining creativity with problem solving and really thinking about how their designs work.
