Mine Craft: Smart City Design
Minecraft Education Camp Vancouver
Date: July 13 - July 17
A Curriculum-Driven Minecraft Camp Where Kids Plan, Zone, and Build Their Own City
+ Early Exposure to Coding and Robotics
+ Hands-On Learning
+ STEAM Education Enhancement
+ Real-World Problem Solving
-
Children analyze how real cities are designed, map their own local area, identify city challenges, and begin building terrain and streets in Minecraft.
-
A zoning and infrastructure crash course sets the foundation for teams to design their city blueprint and begin planning smart city features.
-
Children refresh their Minecraft build skills, then construct major structures and streets while planning the smart city features to come.
-
The city is detailed and smart features are added, followed by a collaborative peer feedback session where teams review and improve each other's builds.
-
City Council Day — teams deliver their presentations defending their city's design decisions, then host virtual tours before a Showcase and Certificate Ceremony.
About the Activities
A city isn't just buildings. It's a system — roads, zoning, green space, infrastructure, people. Designing a good one takes curiosity, critical thinking, and a lot of creative problem-solving.
In our Minecraft Education camp in Vancouver, children become urban planners. They analyze how real cities are organized, then map and plan their own city from scratch — deciding where to zone residential and commercial areas, where to place infrastructure, how to balance density with green space, and how to make their city liveable and smart.
The build happens in Minecraft Education Edition, where teams construct major structures, streets, and terrain before layering in smart city features. The week wraps with City Council Presentations and a Virtual Tour showcase — where every young planner defends their decisions and explains the thinking behind their city.
This Minecraft city design camp is for strategic thinkers — the kind of child who asks "why is the park here?" and "what would happen if we moved the transit line?" Give them a world to build and they'll ask questions you didn't expect.
